Job Description: We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team as the Head of Biology at our Thousand Oaks facility. As the Head of Biology, you will play a pivotal role in leading our biology department, driving research initiatives focused on lipid or cholesterol biology, and providing strategic guidance to a team of talented scientists. Reporting directly to the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO), you will also be responsible for managing a team of six direct reports, ensuring alignment with company goals and objectives. Key Responsibilities: * Leadership and Strategic Direction: * Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for the biology department, aligning research activities with company objectives and scientific priorities. * Collaborate closely with the CSO and senior leadership team to develop and execute the scientific strategy, driving innovation and excellence in lipid or cholesterol biology research. * Team Management: * Lead a team of six direct reports, providing mentorship, guidance, and support to foster their professional development and maximize their potential. * Promote a culture of collaboration, creativity, and scientific rigor within the biology department, encouraging open communication and knowledge sharing. * Research and Development: * Oversee the design, implementation, and interpretation of research studies focused on lipid or cholesterol biology, leveraging cutting-edge technologies and methodologies. * Drive the development of novel therapeutic targets and approaches through innovative research initiatives, contributing to the advancement of drug discovery and development programs. * Project Oversight: * Manage multiple research projects concurrently, ensuring that timelines, milestones, and deliverables are met in accordance with project plans and budgetary constraints. * Monitor project progress, identify potential risks or challenges, and implement proactive strategies to mitigate obstacles and optimize outcomes. * Collaboration and Communication: * Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments, including chemistry, pharmacology, and clinical development, to facilitate seamless integration of biology findings into broader drug development programs. * Communicate research findings, experimental data, and strategic recommendations effectively to internal stakeholders, external partners, and scientific communities through presentations, publications, and conference participation. Requirements: * PhD in Biology or related field: A doctoral degree in biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, or a related discipline is required. * Previous Experience: * Demonstrated expertise in lipid or cholesterol biology, with a track record of significant contributions to the field. * Proven experience in a leadership role within a research-driven organization, with a minimum of 5 years of management experience preferred. * Leadership Skills: * Strong leadership qualities with the ability to inspire, motivate, and empower team members to achieve their full potential. * Experience managing and developing direct reports, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous learning. * Scientific Expertise: * Deep understanding of lipid or cholesterol biology, including knowledge of relevant pathways, mechanisms, and therapeutic targets. * Proficiency in a wide range of laboratory techniques and experimental approaches commonly used in molecular biology, cell biology, and biochemistry. * Communication Skills: * Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex scientific concepts and research findings clearly and persuasively. * Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels of the organization and external partners. * Strategic Thinking: * Strategic mindset with the ability to think critically, analyze complex problems, and develop innovative solutions to advance research objectives and achieve organizational goals.
